Rival comes to Thomson's rescue
Freak damage to Thomson's keel has ended his race hopesBritain's Alex Thomson has been rescued from his capsized boat after he was forced to abandon ship in the Five Oceans round-the-world race.
Thomson was third when his yacht overturned in the Southern Ocean and caused irreparable damage to his keel.
Compatriot Mike Golding sailed 80 miles back upwind to pick up his rival.
He arrived on the scene on Thursday night and the one-and-a-half hour boat-to-boat rescue operation was completed early on Friday morning.
